By far the best chippie in the West End, this Endell Street institution serves fresh fish, fat hand-cut chips and some fantastic vegetable samosas - all cooked in peanut oil. The Rock & Sole Plaice gets very busy at lunchtime and in the summer punters jostle for one of the envied outdoor tables. If you're eating in, there is a risk of getting a table in the dingy
basement rather than the cosy, bustling main room. The main attraction is the fresh fish, fat hand-cut chips and some fantastic home-made samosas for the more adventurous diner. The fact that it's all cooked in peanut oil makes it a marginally healthier option than your average fish and chippie.
