ABOUT IMAGES  
ProgresoTwo London addresses, both ideal for a break from frantic shopping. Escape the hustle and bustle of Portobello Road, or the sea of fashion outlets in Covent Garden for some guilt-free caffeine replenishment.

From the stylised green logo to the post-Apple minimalist pastel seating, the décor is very modern with a real ‘chain’ feel to it. Progreso want to offer you everything the coffee behemoths can, but all fair-trade.

They’ve got all the nibbles you could want – cakes, biscuits, mini-pizzas etc – and serve up hot soups and stews to please the lunchtime crowd. The coffee is first-rate, brewed in an attractive Elektra machine and served in attractive handleless cups with fitted coloured bands to protect your fingers from the heat.

There are only two so far (the second being at 156 Portobello Road, London, W11 2EB. Telephone: 0207 985 0304) but they’re looking to expand and with Progreso’s liking for prime locations and heavily branded interiors, this Oxfam-inspired venture looks to be taking on the big chains at their own game.
